The Allen Heritage Village occupies some acres of land in the ancient, populous region of St. Mary Drive in Allen, Texas. The village consists of several of Allen's archaic remaining homes, churches, and storehouses, which have been moved and rehabilitated, creating a park where guests can have fun while educating them about the history of Allen from interpretive evidence. The facility usually hosts open houses and comprises three churches that members of the public can rent for weddings or other special occasions.
The Allen Heritage Village project started in 2002 with the facelift of the St. Mary Baptist Church. The Allen Heritage Guild gained some additional acres of land in Allen to create a village-like setting where structures from the old residential regions of Allen could be moved and restored to establish a park where guests could enjoy learning about the ancient history of Allen. The project was funded by The Community Development Corporation. The project was completed in September 2002.
The Heritage Guild made tremendous progress in 2003, relocating some identified structures to the facility and coming up with a plan of action for the village. In 2005, a renowned architect developed restoration plans for the outer parts of the two bungalow houses and the Allen Christian Church. The restorations of the exterior were completed in the 2008 summer. The Collin County Master Gardeners Association conducted the landscaping in collaboration with the Allen Heritage Guild, Allen Garden Club, and the City of Allen. The Collin County Master Garden Club, along with other community collaborators, continues to take care of the gardens and develop it.
Renovation of the old yellow farmhouse called the Lane–Carroll house within the village is also ongoing. The city is collaborating with the Allen Heritage Guild to make sure the house gains historical significance. Renovations of the Allen Heritage Village are expected to be completed by the year 2023.
Allen Heritage Village is a reformation of the ancient Allen of the 1920s and 30s. This combination of facilities includes the original Allen Christian Church and St. Mary Church. All these churches are currently being beautifully renovated and can be rented for different events, such as weddings, reunions, and small parties.
Allen Christian Church has a sitting capacity of 250 visitors. St. Mary Church can host a small wedding with a sitting capacity of 75 guests.
